Ahavat Yeshua Messianic Congregation, Jerusalem, Israel
I was saved out of a hippie lifestyle by a radical encounter with God in 1977. I received the Holy Spirit, met Jackie two years later and we were married in 1979. We spent the next ten years as leaders in a small Christian fellowship in Woodstock, NY. In 1989 we started a Messianic congregation and made aliyah to Israel in 1997. Our only son joined us the following year, married several years later and has blessed us with three beautiful grandchildren.
Our first nine years in Israel were devoted to pastoring in Congregation Tiferet Yeshua in Tel Aviv, founded by Ari and Shira Sorkoram. Asher Intrater and I became elders and joined Ari on the leadership team. It was an exciting time in Tel Aviv and we saw many Israelis come to faith.
In 2006, the Lord called us to Jerusalem and we joined Asher and his Revive Israel team in establishing the congregation Ahavat Yeshua. The congregation is flourishing and we have been growing steadily. Today there are frequently over 200 that attend. As pastors, we devoted many years in the discipleship of young leaders. Today they are assuming a significant part of the leadership of the congregation.
Two years ago this August I was diagnosed with a malignant tumor in my brain, followed by cancer in my tonsil. The prognosis was not good, but by God's grace, wonderful Israeli medicine, and an amazing onslaught of God's power, I am cancer free.
Our life is a forty-year testimony of God's wonder and power. We know there is still much that lies before us.
