Elul – Whose kingdom are you building?

Elul means “search” in Aramaic, which is fitting for the time leading up to the High Holy Days, when we search our hearts and ask God to reveal areas of our lives that need correction, discipline and change. During Elul we draw close to God in preparation for the Feast of Trumpets and Day of Atonement. As we enter the month of Elul, we ask ourselves: “Whose kingdom are we building?” Do we understand the times in which we live? Are we more concerned about our own house than God’s house? Are we working hard but harvesting little? Are we going through spiritual motions but not seeking God with our whole heart?
