The Bible describes two groups of people who feared God. The first group were afraid of God. He scared them. They feared Him with dread and terror because they were either pagan and heathen, or rebellious and disobedient. Some expected imminent destruction and hid in caves to escape God’s judgment. The other fear of God is associated with long life, knowledge, and wisdom. To fear God is to rightly ascribe to Him all authority and power. It could be said that those who reject God will eventually dread Him, while those who are His, will fear Him.
