Righteousness is right living, or living by a standard that is right, or just. But we live in a world where many believe their ways are right in their own eyes, and find it hard to accept an absolute standard of righteousness. True or false becomes relative. Some call good evil, and evil good. Ethics and morality become relative. Everything becomes relative. One might say, “Do whatever you want as long as you don’t hurt anybody.” But that doesn’t work. Relativism leads to anarchy, and anarchy leads to chaos. Biblical righteousness is God-centered, not man-centered. It’s not based on works or whim, but on faith.
