Stewardship Series #5 - You Can't Serve God and Mammon

by Hylan Slobodkin

May 5, 2012

This is the only place Yeshua says you can’t serve God and something else … mammon. What is mammon? It’s derived from an Aramaic word that means riches, wealth and possessions. If you serve mammon, it is just like serving an idol or an ancient, manmade god. Though inanimate, Satan uses objects to create attachment and bondage. Serving mammon is antithetical to serving God. Mammon is looking for servants, for disciples, for devotees. Just like a guru is a false teacher, so mammon is a counterfeit. A guru promises you peace and joy, so mammon promises everything that only God can provide.
