The Torah passage read for the Midrash was Deut. 31:9-13, where God, through Moses, commanded the Word of God to be read to all Israel every seven years at Sukkot. The message was essentially about each person needing to be reading the Word for themselves for their personal growth into maturity as a believer, to be able to discern truth, and give a defense for our hope. With a challenge at the end to sharpen their skills in wielding the Word to be enffective in doing God’s work.
