What is mercy? You could call it compassion with leniency. Mercy is being benevolent. Mercy is being kind and forbearing to someone who’s committed an offence. In a court of law, you can plead guilty, and ask the judge for mercy, to be lenient regarding your offense. Kids often plead with their parents for mercy. If you purpose in your heart not to forgive, you tie God’s hands from forgiving you. Or put another way, I can’t be truly forgiven unless there is a forgiving spirit in me. In like manner, if you don’t show mercy, you won’t receive mercy. Mercy triumphs over judgment.
